Plot: 1971. Pvt. Gary Hook's training regiment gets sent to Belfast, Northern Ireland, to assist the army there. The city is divided violently between sides and faiths; the pro UK side is predominantly Protestants, and the pro independence side is predominantly Catholics and belongs to the Irish Republican Army, IRA. After years of fighting, the IRA sees ruptures within its ranks, between the more violent youngsters and the more complacent seniors. Under Lt. Armitage, Gary's platoon's first mission is to assist the local constabulary in a search for suspected illegal weapons in the Catholics' side of town very near the border line. While maintaining the ranks under heavy rioting masses, a soldier is hit by a stone, and a kid picks up his rifle. Armitage sends Gary and another soldier to chase the boy but some men chase after them and beat them senselessly. Two young IRA members Paul and Sean come by them and Paul shoots the other soldier. When Sean hesitates to shoot, Gary runs away from them and manages to escape.Meanwhile the riot gets more violent and Armitage's unit flees the scene, leaving Gary behind. At nightfall, Gary sneaks out of hiding and finds that he's on the Protestants' side of Belfast. A kid helps him to a local pub, where he takes notice of a planned bomb attack on the catholics and MRF Sergeant Leslie Lewis seems to be involved in this. The pub owner demands his dog tags as proof that he's the missing soldier and gives them to Lewis. Lewis orders Gary to stay at the pub, while he leaves. Gary accidentally goes out of the pub just seconds before the bomb suddenly decimates the pub and injures him too. It seems that Lewis is a double agent who works for the IRA. Gary passes out on the street, but Eamon and his daughter Brigid, both Catholics, help him despite knowing he's a British soldier. Not wanting to risk their own lives bringing Gary to the hospital, Eamon calls IRA senior Boyle instead, who then comes to get the soldier. Boyle has contacts to the MRF. He offers the soldier for Quinn's murder in return. When he arrives at Eamon's house, Gary has already managed to leave the flat. Meanwhile Sean, Paul and Quinn arrive and park their car at the entrance. Gary eludes them long enough and manages to stab and kill Paul, but then gets captured by Quinn after Sean again hesitates in shooting him. Quinn takes Sean to a basement to execute Gary but again Sean hesitates. That's when Armitage and his men arrive. Sgt. Lewis goes in first while Armitage goes in shortly after. Lewis finds Gary and quickly shoots Sean, but he then tries to strangle Gary to make sure that he cannot reveal his identity as a double agent. Sean, surviving Lewis's shot, kills Lewis. But Armitage comes and kills Sean.Captain Browning has Quinn in his sights but lets him go, saying Quinn needs to deal with Boyle and that he'll be in touch.A young British soldier is accidentally abandoned by his unit following a terrifying riot on the streets of Belfast in 1971. Unable to tell friend from foe, the raw recruit must survive the night alone and find his way to safety through a disorienting, alien and deadly landscape. A young and disoriented British soldier is accidentally abandoned by his unit following a riot on the deadly streets of Belfast in 1971.
